Arrowsmith's 1802 map was considered the most comprehensive and up-to-date map of the period. First published in 1795, it was revised several times to reflect new geographical findings from contemporary expeditions. It was the 1802 edition of this map that provided much of the information used in the planning of the Lewis and Clark expedition. It was also included in the selected library that accompanied the explorers.
