Pansway or Pansi was a small passage boat very convenient for inland river navigation. Various sizes of Pansways in different flashy colours were seen in Calcutta on the riverbanks.

This Etching Print is a part of the extensive work by Flemish Artist Francois Balthazar Solvyns, whose portrayal of the people and culture of Bengal is amongst the richest visual records of India in the late 18th Century. It is from the series Boats of Bengal.
