FOR FIRST PUBLICATION THURSDAY'S DAILIES, November 11th. THE KENT OIL REFINERY 10.11.1954. Looking like something from another world are the six spherical tanks, known as Hortonspheres installed at the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company's new refinery on the Isle of Grain. They are for the storage of butane, or bottled gas, and similar light products under pressure. Some of the Hortonspheres are 60ft high and 144 ft in diameter. SYMBOLS OF THE FUTURE: These storage tanks are part of the automatic-controlled oil refinery on the Isle of Grain. It would take three days to switch the plant off.
