    FAMOUS LOOMS MAKE WILTON CARPETS AGAIN 1 JANUARY 1946 AFTER BEING IN "BATTLE DRESS" THROUGHOUT THE WAR YEARS, THE WORLD FAMOUS ROYAL WILTON CARPET FACTORY AT WILTON, WILTSHIRE IS NOW CHANGING OVER FROM MAKING CAMOUFLAGE NETS AND KIT BAGS TO THE MANUFACTURE OF THE CELEBRATED HAND-MADE WILTON CARPETS. THE LOCAL ARTISANS HAVE BEEN CARRYING ON SINCE THE XVIITH CENTURY. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS: A CARPET IN THE MAKING AT THE ROYAL WILTON FACTORY ONCE AGAIN. AFTER A FEW ROWS OF WOOL ARE FITTED THE RUG MAKER USES A METAL COMB-LIKE TOOL TO BEAT DOWN THE PIECES OF WOOL. IN THE LOWER PART OF THE PICTURE IS SEEN THE FINISHED CARPET WHILE ABOVE IS THE DESIGN ON PAPER PINNED TO THE STRANDS. JH/F.KEYSTONE 500870 Fs.3343-1
