FOR FIRST PUBLICATION THURSDAY'S EVENINGS 16.5.1946. THE "FIVE TOWNS" ARE BOOM TOWNS. 16.5.1946. From all over the world orders are poring into the five towns of the Staffordshire pottery industry, Hanley, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Fenton and Longton, and despite the difficulties of conversion from war time work the potteries are today turning out some of the finest, pottery-ware of the world. Much of this is hand made and hand-painted in delicate colours such as the housewife of present-day Britain has never seen as it is all going for export. She still has to make do with the drab utility stuff. This is one of a series of pictures taken at the factory of Messrs Copelands of Stoke, makers of the world famous "Spode" china and earthenware every piece of which is handmade. The picture shows - a view in the warehouse where the finished products are awaiting sortment before packing and despatch overseas. Industry - Potteries - Finished articles
