A Self-Portrait

This internationally renowned artist, awarded the gold medal at the Paris exhibition in 1852, was enabled by his successes abroad to contradict a conviction, popular among Polish art critics, that their compatriots are not gifted in painting, etc. The picture shows Rodakowski at the age of 30, and is an excellent example of the European tradition of intimate portraiture.
