A most unique type of specialized car is No. 1700, which was built in 1926 for the New South Wales Government Tramways by the Meadowbank Manufacturing Company, and operated in the city of Sydney, Australia, until 1960. Instead of having a center aisle with seats on either side, this car is divided into eight compartments, each containing two wooden facing cross seats, and has cabs at either end for the motorman. Running boards along the sides, similar to those used on open trolleys, provide access to the compartments, each of which is provided with "Concertina doors."
