The painting belongs to a group sharing the same theme, format and inspiration so that they can be viewed as a homogenous series of room paintings illustrating the romance between Venus and Jupiter which Patania probably painted between 1828 and 1829. The ideal and typically Neo-Classic beauty is diluted in the revived shapes of Hellenistic sculpture and imitation of delicate features typical of Correggio.
