Aala is also commonly used as a place of worship in residences across Haryana. Prints of gods and goddesses are placed on a red coloured cloth laid on the surface. Bottles of ghee, oil, and wicks were kept in the lower part. A curtain was hung to cover the aala when not in use, with a belief of keeping evil energies away from the shrine.
