Adela Pankhurst

Adela Constantia Mary Pankhurst (1885-1961) WSPU organiser. In 1906 Adela, daughter of Emmeline, gave up her job as a school teacher to become a WSPU organiser in Lancashire and Yorkshire. She served several prison sentences for interrupting political meeting and participating in demonstrations. Her outspoken socialist views were, however, not shared by her mother and sister, Emmeline and Christabel. In 1911 she was persuaded by them to end her career as a WSPU organiser. In 1912 Adela went to live in Australia where she remained for the rest of her life.
