Adelaide High School was founded in 1908 with the amalgamation of the Pupil Teacher School, the Grote Street Model School and The Advance School for Girls. By the end of 1908, 263 girls and 245 boys were enrolled. The Grote Street campus was very cramped and in 1951 the Adelaide Boys' High School opened on West Terrace. In the 1970s the school again became co-educational when the girls joined the boys at West Terrace.
