Józef Pankiewicz (1866-1940), despite being associated with the artistic circles of Kraków, followed current artistic trends popular in Western Europe. The artist attempted. with varying degrees of success, to introduce new painting conventions into Polish art. He was a Realist, Impressionist, Cubist, and Colourist, to the end of his life remaining faithful to the constantly changing nature of art.
