This group of works dwell on the association of the body with fabric. While Anita Dube’s works are tactile and visceral in the use of velvet as skin, N. Pushpamala’s works speak of the politics of gender and identity, shaped by attires, and the history of representation. Set side by side they amplify the meaning of the other artworks.
The works were featured as part of the exhibition 'Connecting Threads: Textiles in Contemporary Practice'. The exhibition was curated by Tasneem Zakaria Mehta and Puja Vaish and attempts to trace textile practices, traditions and histories in Contemporary Indian Art.
