Alchemist of music II

My works explore archives, memories and shared experiences.
I am interested in documenting the human experience; in this series, exploring how memory, culture and music intertwine to create shared narratives. Through textured, weathered and erosive surfaces, layered paint and fluidly drawn lines; I capture the essence of gatherings through music, highlighting pioneers of Nigerian music and the evolution of music through them.
Using nostalgia, my works invite viewers to celebrate the evolution of music and remember those who layed the foundation for its growth.
I express my narrative through mixed media which includes oil, coffee stains and flames to achieve the weathered, archival feel which gives credence to the theme of nolstalgia and memory in my works. Through this piece, I capture the enduring abilities ot afrobeat to exist through individuals, in this case, Lagbaja. A masked musician who uses muisc and anonymity as a means of representing collective identity and communal consciousness. His mask is a testament to a larger narrative—one that transcends the individual to celebrate a shared African heritage.
The piece pays homage not only to his contributions but also to the enduring legacy of Afrobeat.
