The Aldabra Giant Tortoise belongs to the true tortoises and only occurs on the Aldabra Atoll, the largest atoll in the Indian Ocean. It has a relatively small head whose diameter is similar to that of the neck. Compared to the Galápagos Giant Tortoise, it has vertical, slitted nostrils, larger scales on the head, a neck plate and the ability to drink through its nose.
