Allegorical costume representing Brazilian Federal District. The Federal District was a political-administrative division of Brazil created by the Republican Constitution of 1891. During the Empire of Brazil, the administrative unit that corresponded to its territory was called Neutral Municipality. It was a legal entity governed by public law with jurisdiction, until 1960, in the territory corresponding to the current area of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
