“I was born in Kotzebue, but lived in Buckland my whole life. We have four kids. We would have had five, but our oldest got adopted and lives in Kotzebue. This is my drying rack, I got this ugruk (bearded seal) a while back, it’s still good. The drying rack reels are birch bark, so it dries the meat we hang better, without getting the fungus. We hang king salmon, chum (salmon), silvers (salmon), and caribou in there.”— Allen Hadley is Inupiaq and lives in Buckland, Alaska.
