This wine jar was purchased 1839 by a representative of the Danish prince, Christian Frederik, the later King Christian VIII. It became part of the king’s large collection of vases and later, after the king’s death, a part of the Collection of Classical Antiquities. On one side an older man and his slave boy are portrayed on their way to the market. On the other a young man at a potter’s shop, carrying his money in a small pouch.
