Originally a deer park surrounding Ampthill Castle, the site evolved into a country house and landscape park. A new house, Park House, was built in the late 17th century. In 1769 Sir William Chambers remodelled the house and the park landscaped in 1771-2 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.
During the Second World War the house was occupied by the army and was then sold to Bovril Ltd before becoming a Cheshire Home care home. It was subsequently divided into several domestic units.
