Dedicated to the local Mexican-American community, the mural is of a Native American impaled on a double crucifix of the Church and imperialism. The controversy resulting from its anti-capitalist theme led to the artist's expulsion from the United States and the whitewashing of the mural almost immediately. América Tropical has recently been restored by the Getty Conservation Institute and the City of Los Angeles and is now open to the public. Commissioned by F. K.
