The painting, belonging to the late production of this eccentric artist, is one of his most well-known works. It illustrates the myth of Perseus who frees Andromeda after killing the sea monster to whom the young woman was about to be sacrificed. Rich in detail, from the exotic costumes to the variety of the musical instruments, this panel, commissioned by the Strozzi family, was already among the works exhibited in the Tribuna of the Uffizi in 1589.
