Boghiguian’s mixed media installation Ani serves as a traveler’s collection of notes, stories, and remembraces of a once great, yet forgotten Armenian city. The artist has chronicled the city in a series of notebooks in gouache, watercolour, and wax reminiscent of an archaeologist’s observations of the Medieval city, an architect’s drawings of the ancient structures, and an anthropologist’s understanding of the traditions and culture of its inhabitants. Scattered among the notebooks are roses and birds, remembering those who have left, and those who have fallen.
