ANKH happily mixed elements from our national epic with characters and monsters from the Dungeons and Dragons universe, The Illustrations by Petri Hiltunen were more Conan the Barbarian than Gallen-Kallela, which made ANKH and its American pop-culture inspired aesthetics quite different from both the previous Kalevala games and the subsequent, realistic descriptions of the Iron Age. Despite its large print run, ANKH quickly became curiosity. However, the more serious Kalevala games that followed it made role-playing the scene where the Kalevala saw widespread utilisation in the 1990s and 2000s.
