Hans Holbein the Elder was one of the first artists who systematically used models. These included dignitaries from Augsburg such as the members of the Fugger family: Anton Fugger, the nephew of the banker Jakob Fugger the Rich, was born in 1493. In 1525 he joined the Fugger trading company and took over its leadership in 1532 and expanded until his death in 1560 even into the New World.
