Antonie Brentano with her children Georg and Fanny

In 1810 Antonie Brentano came to Vienna and met Ludwig van Beethoven. The two became friends and spent some time in the Bohemian spas. Her husband, the merchant Franz Brentano, helped Beethoven out with money. There is some evidence that Beethoven also had romantic feelings for Antonie. The painting shows her with her children Georg and Franziska Elisabeth Magdalena (Fanny).
