The Moches produced the most sculptural pottery in pre-Columbian America. They represented men, women, Gods, animals, plants and complex scenes of daily life in shades of red over cream. Exceptionally, they used some colors like orange and a few designs with smoky transparent black. In terms of quantity, the erotic pottery stands out. This includes vessels that represent different sexual practices. Several researchers agree that these erotic representations are not necessarily associated with reproduction because, in addition to heterosexual scenes, they include homosexual and masturbation scenes. Clitoris and phalluses are widely represented, and their sizes are exaggerated. These sexual representations also include animals and plants, like toads, frogs, dogs and squirrels.
