Produced by artist Ivan Wasth Rodrigues, the work is based on well-known descriptions of the saint's appearance (beard, long hair, blue cassock, sandals). In the background, the typical houses in Arraial de Canudos, which the artist copied from Flávio de Barros's photos of the Canudos War. Specialist in clothing design, Rodrigues also drew, on the right, an Army soldier wearing the uniform used in that conflict.
