The son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis (Diana), the most beautiful of all the gods, his standing gradually rose amongst the other deities and he moved from being a herdsman to a god who reigned over men because of his eloquence and wisdom. A solar deity, he was linked to nature and the cycle of the year’s seasons, as well as to music, poetry and artistic inspiration.
