This regimental history for the 126th Regiment of New York State Volunteers includes an engraving by John Bachelder that depicts the charge of the 111 th, 125th, and 126th N.Y. Volunteers on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. The ribbon on the flag to the left identifies the Color Sergeant—the flag bearer—for the regiment: Erasmus E. Bassett, who was killed during this charge.
