Moon Patrol is an arcade game originally manufactured by Irem in 1982, and licensed to Williams Electronics for American production. One of the earliest side-scrolling shooters, Moon Patrol allows players to control a moon rover as it travels across the Moon and encounters obstacles such as mines, craters and tanks. The rover is also attacked from above by flying UFOs. Players may follow one of two pre-set courses across the moon, one being set on "regular" mode and the other on "champion" mode. Moon Patrol's popularity led to many ports of the game onto home consoles and computers such as the Apple II, the Atari 2600 and the Commodore 64. It also appeared on Arcade Hits compilations for the Game Boy Color, the Dreamcast and the PlayStation.
