As a ”missing link“ — an intermediate form between two different animal groups — the "urvogel" Archaeopteryx is a particular focus for evolutionary research. Apart from eleven skeleton finds with recognizable feather imprints, there is no further information on its habits, locomotion and ability to fly. Anatomical and functional adaptations found in the Archaeopteryx skeleton and feathers can be identified by comparison with reptiles and birds — its nearest living relatives. Further thought goes into the reconstruction of body muscles. The habitat must also be considered in order to deliver a reconstruction as close to the original animal as possible.
