Wrocław, Poland

The artist, Professor at the Academy of Arts in Wrocław, specialised in sculpture and medallic art. This sculpture is based on a myth of the nymph Arethusa, who became the object of love of the river god, Alpheus. When the nymph escaping his attentions transformed herself into a spring, the besotted god flooded it with the water of his river. Initially the sculpture adorned a fountain in the palace garden in Oleśnica Mała. Another sculpture by Gosen, “Amor On Pegasus”, can be admired on the Old Town Promenade in Wrocław.
