Self-taught artist Charles Ngatia discovered his artistic talent creating backdrops for play for the Shangilia Mtoto wa Africa, a theatre group and home for street children. Overcoming immense adversity in childhood, including having to drop out of primary school due to a lack of fees, Ngatia learned the value of hard work and resilience, channeling his own life experiences into his art. He was born in 1979 in Eldoret in Kenya’s Rift Valley.
