Paul Iribe is one of the pioneers of Art Deco. His designs for furniture, jewellery, fabrics, stage decoration and theatre costumes show the changed sense of style that replaced Art Nouveau from 1910 onwards and developed a new repertoire of forms. In his opinion, furniture should reflect the aesthetics of the present. However, he rejected cubist forms or machine-made furniture.
