Arnaud's Nightscene

Clarence Millet1932

Ogden Museum of Southern Art

Ogden Museum of Southern Art
New Orleans, United States

Millet may very well have painted this work in the course of his involvement with the Works Progress Administration Easel Painting Program. It turned up in the possession of Germaine Wells, who owned the restaurant Arnaud's for many years, and who had been given, illegally, several WPA paintings by a Louisiana Congressman. It is in Millet's flowing nighttime style, similar to other works with moonlit themes.
