"In the present work, the research work carried out by the distinguished archaeologist architect D. Pablo Gutiérrez Moreno during his stay in Cádiz has been used intensively. A large part of the points of view regarding Cadiz architecture and reciprocal influences between Cadiz and America are due to him. For primitive archaeology, the excavations of D. Pelayo Quintero and others have been taken into account. In the rest, the existing bibliography has been used, but as soon as it is corrected or contradicted, the author bases himself on reliable documents or on the results of his personal research. The photographic material comes mainly from the Mas Archives, in Barcelona, and Trébol, in Cádiz. Three photographs are of Mr. Reymundo (Cádiz) and a short number has been provided by Mr. Gutiérrez Moreno, to whom I am pleased to express my gratitude." - Author's note
