Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938), born in Brasov (Romania), died in Kraków, painter, graphic artist. Studied at the Munich Academy under Gabriel Hackl and Alexander Wagner and in Paris under August Carolus-Duran. Portraitist of women, painter of genre scenes from the life of the Hutsuls. Professor at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts (1895-1934), its rector in 1910. He was the founder of a school of painting for women (1897), co-founder of the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka", member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1891, the Vienna Secession and "Ver Sacrum". Honorary member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He exhibited from 1880 at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Kraków, at the Krywult Salon in Warsaw and at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
