“Arte Chicano,” by César Augusto Martínez, was published in the journal Caracol: La Revista de la Raza in 1975. In it, Martínez outlines some of the key features of Chicano art: its cultural differentiation from Mexico; its linguistic and cultural bilingualism (as seen, for instance, in the title of Bato con Sunglasses); and the deep influence of the American way of life.
