Asoebi

Born in 1963 in Lagos, Nigeria, after completing his HND (Higher National Diploma) at the Auchi Polytechnic School of Art and Design, Auchi, Edo State in 1991, followed by an MFA at the University of Benin in 2000, Alex Nwokolo is presently one of the leading artists on the West African art scene. Worn by family members and friends, Aso Ebi is a uniform for weddings, burials, naming ceremonies, etc. It originated in southwestern Nigeria in the 1950s.
