Black Panther Assata Shakur (Joanne Chesimard) was accused of being a member of the Black Liberation Army and was sentenced to life in prison for the death of a state trooper killed during her arrest on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973. She escaped from prison in 1979 and lives in Cuba
