Reproduction. The astrolabe was one of the classic instruments of astronomy in al-Andalus. By means of the simulation of the star movements, it allows to calculate numerous information, like duration of day and night, latitudes, position of the sun and the stars, etc. The largest number of Arab-Islamic astrolabes of the eleventh century that are preserved comes from al-Andalus. The Andalusian designs included interesting modifications that influenced entire Islamic world and the West.
