At Noorden near Nieuwkoop

'Light and sky, now that is real art! It is the sky that determines the painting.' Painters should study the sky time and again, Weissenbruch thought. He did so himself in the lake area near the village of Nieuwkoop. It inspired him to paint this surprising landscape, or – as one of his contemporaries said – a 'poem in paint', with a beautiful blue sky and a single white cloud.
