At the square in Samarkand

The landscape was painted in a hurry, just before leaving for Moscow. The artist was in a hurry to grasp the color changes depending on the lighting, as the morning flared up quickly, the sun rose higher, the shadows became shorter and discolored. Hence, in this monumental painting there is a great internal tension and swirl of strokes.
