Athletes compete in the Girls’ 50 Yard Dash at the International Special Olympics at Soldier Field

In 1968, athletes first competed in the Chicago Special Olympics, the world’s first public games for people with intellectual disabilities. The 1970 Special Olympics hosted more than 2,500 athletes from 45 US states, Puerto Rico, Canada, and France.
