This Australian Bicentennial $10 note was the world’s first plastic banknote with an (impossible to copy) optically variable device (OVD) held between sheets of clear plastic. The issue of this limited edition banknote served as a field trial of plastic banknotes and led to worldwide acceptance of this Australian innovation. While many overseas banknotes now include OVDs, Australian banknotes have a clear plastic window without the embedded device.
