Established in 1985 to recognise and honour Australia’s most significant surfers, the Hall Of Fame (HoF) secured a permanent physical home in December 1993 with the opening of the National Surfing Museum in Torquay. The criteria for induction to the HoF is “an Australian surfer who, through performances in the water and wider contributions to the sport, has become an integral part of this country’s surfing history and culture”. Each year, the living members vote to decide on the new inductees. As of July 2019 the HoF had 41 members, 33 men and 12 women.
