Autumn on the Hudson

During the early 1860s, when he made this painting, Brown lived in New York and made frequent sketching trips to the countryside of the upstate and New England. "Autumn on the Hudson" shows the influence of American landscape painter Frederic Church, particularly in its sunset sky.
