"Sesame Street" was first released on November 10, 1969, and it is the longest running children's program on American television. It is best known for its Muppet characters, created by Jim Henson. The show is produced in the United States by the non-profit organization Sesame Workshop. Elmo first appeared on "Sesame Street" in 1985, and has since become one of the most beloved characters on the show. His curious nature and constant questions allow children to learn from someone at their own level. In 1996, the toy Tickle Me Elmo elevated the popularity of the character to new heights, as parents literally fought over toys in the stores. Since then, there has been a "must have" Elmo toy nearly every year as well as a wealth of spin-off related products.
