Basket-shape white porcelain vase with rose, Izushi ware

This white porcelain with decorative petals less than 1mm of thickness to represent rose reliefs is made to look like a cane or bamboo woven basket. Pottery and ceramic wares became Japan’s major export industry during the Meiji era after Japonisme swept across the west in the latter half of the nineteenth century. These exported porcelain wares had to be made with skillfully crafted decorations.
