This lace was one of over 30 identical pieces presented to nations throughout the British Commonwealth. It depicts episodes from the Battle of Britain and features the insignia of the British Commonwealth air forces, including the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The textile is reminiscent of the Bayeux tapestry, which chronicles the Norman victory over Anglo-Saxon forces at the battle of Hastings in 1066. This lace, however, recounts a very different story: one of British ingenuity and of the few brave pilots who prevented Hitler’s planned invasion.
